Marty attended the University of Louisville in Kentucky, where he studied accounting and played baseball. Over the years, Marty has held several management positions related to operations, materials management and marketing. He began his professional career in 1990 with Wheel Corporation of America, where he worked as a production employee and gained experience on freight car wheel set production and freight car wheel set materials. He was consequently promoted to Materials and Quality Manager in 1991.
Marty joined Progress Rail in 1993 when Corbin Railway Services purchased Steel Processing Services, later to become Progress Rail. Shortly thereafter, he was named Assistant Vice President of Materials Management for the company’s freight car wheel shops, freight car parts and car dismantling operations. In 1998, Marty became Vice President of Operations for the company’s wheel and axle shops, parts reclamation, mobile crews and outside yards. Marty was named Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Progress Rail's Locomotive and Railcar Services business unit in March 2002, and in January 2009, was promoted to Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Locomotive and Railcar Services. In January 2011, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Locomotive and Railcar Services, and in 2018 with expanded responsibilities internationally was named Executive Vice President of Rolling Stock (formerly known as the company’s Locomotive and Railcar Services division).
In March of 2019, Marty was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Progress Rail. His predecessor, Billy Ainsworth, was promoted to Group President of Caterpillar's Energy and Transportation division.
Marty and his family reside in North Alabama.
Keri is the Chief Financial Officer for Progress Rail.
Keri has spent most of her 26-year career in Accounting. Keri joined Caterpillar in 2006 as the Business Support Manager for Marine Engines. Since then, she has held a variety of roles within Caterpillar’s Building Construction Productions (BCP) division. She held several Business Support Manager roles within Caterpillar’s Compact Construction Equipment group, as well as a role outside of Accounting as a Product Manager for Compact Loaders/BCP Attachments. Most recently, prior to joining Progress Rail, Keri was the CFO for BCP for the last three years.
In 2016, Keri completed Caterpillar’s Executive Leadership Program, Digging Deep, which was developed in partnership with Duke University, and is a twelve-month project based course to train future leaders.
Keri is a CPA and a CMA, and started her career working with small business clients in public accounting. She transitioned to industry relatively early in her career, and has worked in various accounting roles, as well as internal audit at Dana Corporation. Keri is also a member of the IMA, AICPA and NCACPA.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, and a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Tennessee, Martin.
Keri is married and has two daughters. She enjoys spending time with them, as well as reading, cooking, and traveling.
Beth is Chief Compliance Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate Services at Progress Rail. She’s been with the company for approximately 12 years. In her role, Beth has global responsibility for the people functions of the division. This expands into global oversight of risks, regulatory compliance and management systems, staffing, development and strategic planning with business units.
She serves on the board for Caterpillar’s Employee Resources Group for Disabled Employees. She and her husband work in the community by serving as liaisons for the Foster and Adoptive parents of Marshall County, as they are mentors for new foster and/or adoptive parents.
Beth is a graduate of the University of Alabama where she received a Master’s in Business Administration. She also attended Jacksonville State University and received a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree. She resides in North Alabama with her husband and children.
John currently serves as Executive Vice President of Infrastructure for Progress Rail.
John received his B.S. in Engineering from Auburn University (1997), his International M.B.A from the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina (2000), and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Alabama (2005).
John gained domestic and international experience working in the pharmaceutical, technology and textile industries before deciding to study law. After law school, he practiced at Burr & Forman LLP, where he focused on business planning, mergers and acquisitions, economic development and antitrust matters.
He then joined Caterpillar in 2012 as a member of the Legal Services Division, providing support to Progress Rail. Since joining the commercial team, John has served as Regional Director of Sub-Saharan Africa, based in Pretoria, South Africa and as Progress Rail’s Strategic Sales Director. In 2015, John was promoted to Senior Vice President of Corporate Services with responsibility for various Administrative functions, as well as Progress Rail's strategic growth including merges & acquisitions. He assumed his current role as EVP of Infrastructure in January of 2018.
Outside of the office, John serves on the Board of Directors of the Business Council of Alabama and on the Board of Directors of the Marshall County Economic Development Council. Prior to relocating to Albertville, John was active in the Arthritis Foundation’s Southeastern Region. He has served on various boards and committees, including Alabama’s Juvenile Arthritis Initiative, which raised over $2 million dollars to establish a pediatric rheumatology clinic at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to the establishment of this clinic, there were no pediatric rheumatologists practicing in Alabama. The clinic now serves children from Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee, and with the addition of two doctors in 2011, it became the largest pediatric rheumatology clinic in the Southeast.
John and his wife, Blair, have two children.
Senior Vice President of Global Rolling Stock Sales, Technology and Marketing, with responsibility for the company's global locomotive and freight car sales team, the analytics and advanced rail product strategy, and Marketing for the enterprise.
After graduating from the University of Georgia in 1982 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Operations Management, Paul worked in the power generation industry for Williams Power Corporation. During his 10-year service with Williams Power, he held the positions of Project Manager, Operations Manager and Business Development Manager. In 1994, Paul joined BARCO Display Systems, an international provider of high-end electronics for avionics, air traffic control, C4I and medical imaging, as an account executive. Paul joined GE Transportation (GETS) in 2000, where over his 12 years of service, he held sales and sales leadership positions of increasing responsibility, culminating in his appointment as Director of Global Sales for the newly formed Software and Optimization Solutions business.
Paul joined Progress Rail in 2013 and is active in several community service organizations, participating in local events, such as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Festival of Trees and Habitat for Humanity. He is also a board member of Atlanta Young Audiences, a national organization, promoting arts for education.
Doug Creech has been with Progress Rail since June 1, 1993, when the company was formed as a result of the merger of Corbin Railway Service Companies & Steel Processing Services Corporation. He has served in several different management positions over the years, including within Progress Rail’s former leasing company, Railcar LTD. He is currently responsible for Progress Rail’s Freight Car Leasing Division.
He was previously employed by Electric Fuels Corporation (EFC) in St. Petersburg, Florida, (a former Progress Rail parent company), based at their Corbin, Kentucky, location, where he was responsible for all EFC freight car operations. As a result of the merger in 1993, Doug was reassigned from Corbin to Albertville, Alabama, where he remains today, in the Progress Rail corporate office. Doug has spent his entire career within the railroad industry, dating back to 1984.
Brian Edwards is Senior Vice President of Locomotive Aftermarket and Service Operations for Progress Rail's Rolling Stock Division.
Brian attended Youngstown State University where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Brian also received a Master of Science degree in Manufacturing Management from GMI Engineering & Management Institute. Originally a co-op student at General Motors (Delphi Automotive), Brian hired on after graduation as a front line supervisor in 1987, and spent several years working in manufacturing and engineering with increasing roles of responsibility. After 13 years at Delphi, he spent 10 years at GE Transportation with roles in Engineering, Sourcing, Operations Leadership and P&L Leadership in locomotive services. In November of 2010, Brian joined Progress Rail as Vice President of Sales with responsibility for the BNSF account. Since 2010, Brian has been responsible for North American Sales, Aftermarket, Operations and Global Customer Support, as well as the addition of the Haynes Injector business and Western Reman Power Assembly, Turbo and Engine component businesses. Brian completed Caterpillar’s Digging Deep Executive Leadership course from Stanford University. He was promoted to Senior Vice President in December of 2017.
Outside of the office, Brian is an active member of the BNSF Support Board in Fort Worth, Texas, for United Way and March of Dimes. He is also a supporter and contributor of Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City and a member of Covenant Church.
Brian and his family currently reside in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas.
Jim Shirvinski, currently Senior Vice President of Freight Car & Locomotive Assembly, joined Progress Rail in 2011 as Director of Operations for the Muncie, Indiana, facility. In 2013, he was named as Senior Vice President of Engineering for the Locomotive & Railcar Services (LRS) group, and was most recently promoted to his current role. Jim has responsibility for our Wheel, Axle, Bearing & Parts facilities, Freight Car Repair facilities, Recycling and Locomotive Assembly facilities. Prior to joining Progress Rail, Jim held a variety of senior management positions, including Vice President of Manufacturing and General Manager for Union Tank Car Company.
Jim began his career with Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in 1992, working for four years in the Forward Planning Group, as well as in the Manufacturing Engineering Group. In 1996, Jim joined Union Tank Car Company at the East Chicago, Indiana, manufacturing plant as a manufacturing engineer and advanced to chief manufacturing engineer. Subsequently, he was promoted to Manager of Quality Control and then Director of Manufacturing Engineering. In 2005, Jim relocated to Alexandria, Louisiana, to help design and construct a new tank car manufacturing facility for Union Tank Car. Jim oversaw that facility’s daily operations, as well as other manufacturing operations in East Chicago, Indiana; Sheldon, Texas; and for McKenzie Valve Manufacturing in McKenzie, Tennessee.
Jim is a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and was pursuing a Master’s Degree in Business Administration before his move to Alexandria, Louisiana. Jim was also an Associate Professor for Purdue University Calumet for two semesters, teaching Internal Combustion Engine Design.
Gary Eelman is Senior Vice President of Rolling Stock Transit Sales, with additional responsibility for Cat® engine sales for the global rail market.
Gary began his career in 1972 with Penn Central Railroad in New York City, working his way up through mechanical and transportation leadership positions in subsequent railroads such as Conrail and Amtrak. In 1983, he became Chief Mechanical Officer for New Jersey Transit, the third-largest commuter railroad in North America. From 1987 to 1999, he held the position of Vice President at Helm Financial Corporation, where he was in charge of a significant locomotive lease portfolio.
Gary holds multiple technical, transportation and leadership certificates and has taught classes in pneumatics, passenger train operations and leadership skills. He is an airline transport rated commercial pilot and a certified flight instructor for instrument flying and multi-engine, high-performance aircraft. He has attended a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) course on accident analysis and leadership skills classes at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gary joined Progress Rail as a Vice President in August of 2010.
Jim Lawley is Senior Vice President of Information Technology for Progress Rail.
A 28-year veteran of the information technology industry, Jim was introduced to the company in 1992 as a consultant while implementing an Accounting and Warehouse Distribution System for Steel Processing Services. He accepted full-time employment as Manager, Information Systems after the merger with Electric Fuels Corporation in 1993 and Progress Rail Services was formed.
He was promoted to Vice President in 2002 after successfully implementing the company’s first Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and serving as lead IT resource on numerous merger and acquisition projects.
Jim has a Computer Technology degree and is a Certified Information Systems Professional.
He lives in Gadsden, Alabama, with his wife and two daughters.
Patrick O’Donnell is Senior Vice President of Australia and Southeast Asia for Progress Rail. He provides oversight and leadership responsibility for our rail business in the region, while working closely with his Rolling Stock and Infrastructure peers.
Patrick joined Aurizon in 2009, having previously worked at Asciano, the then owner of Pacific National. While there, Patrick led large workforces of up to 2,800 employees through various roles, delivering large-scale capital projects, and ensuring the safety, reliability and performance of Aurizon’s rolling stock fleet. He previously oversaw maintenance, heavy workshops, rolling stock engineering and reliability, infrastructure engineering and project delivery during his time at Aurizon.
Patrick was at the forefront of delivering critical change that created key advantages for Aurizon. Most notably, Patrick led one of the most significant reformations at Aurizon, transforming how the company procured, serviced and maintained their rolling stock fleet, enabling the company to win market share and drive earnings growth.
Leah Green serves as General Counsel for Progress Rail and as Assistant General Counsel for Caterpillar Inc.
Leah attended Auburn University where she received her B.S. in International Business, magna cum laude. She received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Alabama in 2005. Before joining Progress Rail in 2012, Leah worked in private practice in Huntsville, AL, for 7 years, supporting clients in commercial and government contracting, employment law, and regulatory support.
In her current role, Leah leads a team of attorneys that provide legal support to Progress Rail’s operations worldwide.
Leah lives in Huntsville, Alabama, with her husband and two children.
